When backpacking, one of the most important items you can take with you is a tent. You will want a tent that you can set up camp quickly and easily and offers good protection allowing a good nights sleep, so you can start fresh again the next day. You will also want it to be light in weight if you intend backpacking. Choosing the correct tent is very important when backpacking. To help to choose which tent is best for you then the following describes the many types that are currently available on the market today and the ones most suitable for backpacking.

Tunnel tent These tents are superb for carrying as they are so lightweight therefore great for long backpacking expeditions. However, they don’t have much height and have two poles in their construction. They need stakes to keep the tent secure.

Dome tent The dome tent is excellent for headroom and internal space. It is a breeze to set up as it only uses two poles. However, with only two poles there isn’t a lot of support so it’s not so good if you are expecting bad or unpredictable weather conditions.

Supported dome tent This is very similar to a dome tent but offers more support. It is ideally suited to worse weather conditions and offers the same benefits as a regular dome tent.

Freestanding tent The freestanding tent is quite easy to set up as well as being pretty sturdy. They are very lightweight in design making them a great backpacking favorite. This tent should always be staked down so it doesn’t blow away.

Teepee tent As this tent has one tall pole in the middle it is great for headroom. The tent is draped over the pole and staked down to secure it. They usually don’t have a floor but still offers great protection from the weather.

Single wall constructed tent The single wall tent does not have a fly but is very easy to erect as they do not need extra ropes or stakes. Again, a lightweight tent so ideal for backpacking. Be sure to provide ventilation as they get condensation easily.

Double wall constructed tent Very similar to the single wall tent except they have an outer layer or fly so are well ventilated and don’t suffer as bad from condensation. They are also very easy to set up too.

In today’s economic circumstances, families are concerned with saving as much as they can, and spending as little as possible on luxuries such as holidays. However, family cruises offer not only lower costs, but also greater convenience for those who need a break. When comparing family cruise holidays with land-based types of travel, there are various considerations that people can keep in mind to decide what type of holiday would suit them best.

The best thing about family cruises, particularly for parents, is the convenience of onboard activities for kids. Children of all ages are accommodated on cruises that offer family packages. These include day-care services for younger children, activities involving play and other forms of entertainment for preschoolers to preteens, up to game and dance venues for teenagers. Often meals are also set up to cater for the tastes of all ages.

In addition to convenience, family cruises also include value for money. Each cruise package has a single price to include most of the onboard services the family will receive, such as rooms, dining, entertainment, and extras. Generally, a land vacation of the same quality for the whole family would be more expensive.

The transfer company representative was right there, on time, waiting for the group to come in from Toronto holding up the sign, Valerie Kent. Ten of us streamed towards the sign, luggage already in hand. We had been looking forward to this painting workshop all winter. A couple of the artists had been to Italy previously, and the rest of us were Newbies.

Joanne Epworth said, “We were all so excited that I thought we would all levitate, but actually all we did was board the pleasant little van which headed right up the mountain to the lookout and took in our first, but no means last, astounding vista. Beneath our feet stretched the city of Florence and the Arno River. It took our breath away. You just could not stop looking. Everywhere you looked it was so beautiful. It was unbelievable how beautiful the view was.”

Our hotel, the Monna Lisa, was tucked away in the historic centre of the city, with its narrow streets and cars practically touching the walls of the ancient buildings as they zipped by. Joanne Epworth said, “The hotel which had been a grand residence of the Medici family, was approximately 800 years old. It had a romantic entrance, a garden and a courtyard patio for breakfast when the weather was good. Some of the group painted out in the courtyard in the afternoon. It was a great location in that it was close to many restaurants, attractions and piazzas.”

International travel around this time of the year is exciting. Because of the global economic crisis you can find good deals to almost destination. Most countries are safe and don’t require extra precautions or vaccinations, but it is helpful to remember a few precautionary steps, just in case.

Salmonella Typhi causes a disease transmitted through food or drinks that are handled or served after poor hand washing or when contaminated sewage gets into drinking or hand-washing water. It causes high fever, headache, body weakness, stomach pain and a rash.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says there are about 300 cases of typhoid fever in the United States every year, the majority resulting from international travelers. The disease is more prevalent in the Indian subcontinent, Latin America, Asia, Middle East and Africa. Although there is a vaccine to prevent infection by S. Typhi, travelers to those countries should know that the vaccine is not a substitution for careful selection of food and drink. So, the CDC reminds us to “boil it, cook it, peel it, or forget it” as a rule of thumb when visiting countries with a high prevalence of enteric infections.

The holidays aren’t considered one of the busiest times of year for nothing. As we all know, they usually call for more phone calls, e-mails, luggage-carrying and shopping trips than the norm. I have found myself wading through bustling crowds of shoppers while simultaneously planning a business meeting and scheduling holiday outings with friends over the phone. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, life becomes pretty hectic when you’re barraged with so many things all at once, sometimes inducing headache and sensory overload. Luckily, a wealth of travel gadgets out in the market can minimize holiday stress and keep you organized while being easy on the pocketbook. These gizmos aren’t all work and no play — in addition to saving you time and providing added convenience, many of these products are even fun to use. Here’s a rundown of great holiday travel gadgets you might want to add to your wish list this year:

1. Balanzza Digital Luggage Scale: This user-friendly device is a must-have for baggage-toting travelers. You need only hook the Balanzza’s strap to your luggage, lift the luggage off the ground until you hear a beeping sound indicating that the weight has registered on the display, and then set the luggage down to read the weight shown on the screen itself. (It can handle items that weigh up to 100 pounds and can display weight in pounds or kilograms.) The handy scale is easy to use and so small you can carry it everywhere.

2. LiveScribe Pulse Smartpen: When on the move, travelers don’t always have their laptops handy and instead opt for the traditional note-taking-with-a-pen approach. However, scribbling notes on paper later proves inconvenient when the material has to be sent directly to one’s computer, leaving one to do more work in the end. That’s no longer the case thanks to this nifty computer-in-a-pen device, which allows you to take notes that can later be transferred to your computer. Packed with various features including an audio jack, USB connector, speaker and microphone, it allows you to send colleagues hand-written meeting notes and itineraries without having to use a copy machine or scanner. As an added bonus, it also lets you leave the laptop back at the office or in your hotel room. Who knew a pen could do this much?

3. Belkin Surge Protector: How many times have you had trouble finding a power outlet at an airport or hotel room when you’ve needed it most? There’s no need to sulk any longer. The lightweight Belkin Surge Protector boasts a 360 degree rotating plug, three AC outlets and two USB outlets, ensuring the batteries in your cell phone or iPod stay charged while you sunbathe on the beach or host a business conference. Without a doubt, this comes in handy amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

To the local people, Banaue is a place of true bliss and peace. This place to them is the eighth wonder of the world, and people who come to see this beautiful destination are stunned by the gorgeous green fields of rice cut right through rock and stones.
Located at a distance of roughly 250 kilometers north of Manila, the capital city of Philippines, Banaue can simply take your breath away. If you are looking for an experience which you have never seen previously, then you should take a day off to see and believe how the mountains of Ifugao were carved through and cleared with painstaking precision to create what can be called, a “stairway to heaven”. By cutting through and making a stair-like formation on which crops are grown, this area is a treat for sightseers who can get a breathtaking view of the rice terrace for which Banaue is famous. The fields are irrigated by mountain streams and springs which are skillfully maneuvered towards the fields. This is part of a World Heritage Site, as acclaimed by UNESCO and is a part of the Rice Terraces of Philippines Cordilleras, where these have been in existence for more than 6000 years. The ownership is hereditary, and people have tilled the land for generations, making their means with the farmed land.

You can reach this place from Manila via public bus or cars. It is pretty reasonable, and the roads are quite well-maintained, so it would be no hardship for you to travel in one.

If you are a bit of an adventurer and wondering what Banaue has in offer, then you should head down to Batad, Bangaan or Sagada for a more close-in view of the rice terrace and marvel at the beauty. Batad is roughly a 14-16 kilometers ride. Several hotels are present, offering rooms with bathrooms for quite reasonable price. Generally you can do a lot of sightseeing, or maybe take a little tour to the market where you can get several local specialties.

One of the things you can definitely buy would be a hand-woven blanket, which would be a wonderful souvenir to take back. You can also go for a visit to the witch doctor, or Mumbaki, who can cure your ailments and heal you in a totally natural way. So, if you want to experience such amazing feats, you should definitely come to Banaue.

In order to get the most for your money there are a few things you should consider when you are looking for a rental car whether it is for business or pleasure.

1. COUPONS AND DISCOUNT CODES. Always look for online coupons and discount codes for the best overall deals on your car hire. Find your discount and start with the companies that you have found discounts for first. Make sure they give you the rate before you inquire about using the discount. This will help ensure that you don’t wind up paying too much.

2. LOCATION. If you are renting during a trip try to check out somewhere that isn’t in an airport because they tend to tack on extra fees. Location does matter and make sure you call around to a lot of different places before you actually end up booking something.

3. TIME OF RENTAL. Weekends tend to be more expensive to rent a car than the weekdays are. If you are traveling during the weekend trying to drop off/pick up the car Monday-Thursday is a good idea and could save you money. 4. SHOP AROUND. Comparing prices online or over the phone are a great way to save yourself money and a headache.

5. REMEMBER CHEAP IS NOT THE ONLY CRITERIA TO CONSIDER. A lot of other things need to go into your decision of a car rental company and what you want to use. A good deal is important to all of us obviously, but if there are other charges that they will tack on later you may wind up paying more for that cheap rental. Look at mileage charges and road services as well as insurance.

Many people nowadays end up choosing only a regular flight ticket when traveling to Thailand. This is true for people flying not only to Bangkok but also Chang Mai, Phuket International Airport as well as Koh Samui Airport.

This is an option that is always available for the more adventurous travelers among us, who want to experience things more as they come rather than having a resort or similar already booked up in advance. You really do not have to be a diehard backpacker to travel in this fashion, at least not in Thailand. It is very easy to get around the country. Remember that tourism is one of Thailand’s greatest sources of income and many of the Thai people are in the tourism business for this particular reason.

Buying only a flight seat leaves you with many opportunities once you arrive. You may either purchase an additional ticket to somewhere else straight at the ticket counter, or you can go into town for a couple of days and arrange for the different land transportation that are available; bus, minivan, train and so on.
