Many know the name Debi Pearl because of her work co-authoring child training books like To Train Up a Child. Her most controversial work to date is Created to Be His Helpmeet, a book in obvious contrast to the feminist agenda for the home and family. In contrast, she presents the Biblical role of a married woman even when it isn’t ‘politically correct’. This generated predictable controversy.
Now Debi has taken up her pen (or computer) once again in writing the first of a series of well-researched fiction stories. The story takes place largely in rural Tennessee (they live in rural Tennessee) and focuses on the printing and distribution of an illustrated Bible, an obvious reference to her husband’s book Good and Evil. This book is like a Bible story book, largely pictures, but with a clear Gospel message. Their goal is to print and distribute it in 100 languages and 25 are already nearly finished.
The Vision has the makings of a controversial thriller. Muslim extremists plot to hault any further distribution of the Arabic illustrated Bible. Ashur, undaunted by the murder of his mentor, determines to carry on his work to get the Gospel to the Arabic speaking people. He moves to the area of eastern Tennessee where the book is printed.
The book is based on well-researched facts, including the use of herbal remedies. The plot thickens as a secret herbal brew, the means of raising money for the book printing and distribution, is the target of a White Supremacist group who covet the monetary value of the brew for their own purposes.
While there, Ashur learns of a geologic fault that extends right through Yellowstone National Park. If this fault gives way, it would virtually wipe out the country through lava and poisonous ash.
Another woman, Magdalene, who has ruined her life with sin, finds refuge at the printing center, and experiences the love of Christ through the women who surround her. The three groups each move in on their goal, including the Last Publishers who are printing the Arabic book targeting Muslims.
Debi’s last words summarizing the book are these: “But at the most unexpected moment it seems that the terrorists win. Is it over? Is God in control?” Though some conflicts are resolved before it is over, others are not as this is the first in a series of books.
The Vision by Debi Pearl promises excitement, information, inspiration, and challenge. It may be more prophetic than we would like to believe.
